Prologue

I was traveling across the country by car, exploring the states along Route 66. On that first night, I arrived at my hotel for the evening and gave my name for the reservation I had made.  When I started the check-in process, I found out there was a message left at the front desk for me. The note only said: Call your Grandparents.

When my grandmother answered the phone, my life changed.  “Your sister has been in an accident.”
