PROLOGUE

It had been a long day. Detective Horowitz had just finished his fifth cup of coffee and was getting ready to head home when the call came in: multiple homicides in residence. Horowitz pressed his palms to his temples. There just wasn’t enough Tylenol to cope. He could say screw it and leave it to someone else.

Like that idiot gentile rookie, Jackson, for instance.

With a world-weary sigh, Horowitz heaved himself up from his desk chair, grabbed his revolver and trenchcoat, and shuffled to the squad room door.
